- [The Quraysh Approach Aboo Talib for the Last Time](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/the-quraysh-approach-aboo-talib-for-the-last-time/): The people of Makkah tried to carry on their lives as normal, but there was a constant reminder that things would never be the same in Makkah again. That reminder came in the form of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who continued preaching Islam at every opportunity, and the visitors who came to Makkah for business. However, as much as he increased his activities to spread Islam, the Quraysh, similarly, increased their efforts to squash it. The air always seemed charged with tension because, now, Makkah was divided into two groups the believers and the disbelievers. Then, there was the matter of Aboo Talib. Aboo Talib, who had been a pillar of support and protection for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , was no longer healthy. The severe hardships he had endured during the boycott had affected his health and he became very ill. This also concerned the Quraysh. If Aboo Talib died, they did not want the other Arabs to think that they could use that as an opportunity to kill the Messenger of Allah ﷺ Quraysh again approached Aboo Talip to appeal to his nephew. This time, however, they wanted to make a different deal. They proposed that they would leave the Messenger of Allah alone to practice his religion, but he had to agree to leave them alone too.
- [Taking the Call to Taa’if](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/taking-the-call-to-taaif/): The Quraysh knew that Muhammad ﷺ was very sad over the loss of two of his beloved family members. However, Aboo Talib's death meant a great opportunity for them and they intended to take advantage of it. Without his powerful uncle to defend him, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was now their open prey. They openly displayed their hatred of Islam and tortured the Muslims constantly. Once, a rude Makkan threw sand on the Messenger's ﷺ head. There were many Muslims in Madeenah from numerous powerful tribes, steadfast in their devotion. No doubt, this city was like a jewel of hope glistening in the scorching desert sun.
- [News of the Secret Meetings](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/news-of-the-secret-meetings/): Somehow, while the Messenger ﷺ and the Ansaar (the Helpers) secretly met, the Quraysh were alerted about a treaty being made between Muhammad ﷺ and a group of pilgrims from Madeenah. So, even as the pilgrims crept back to their beds, the Quraysh were fuming over this latest news. "What was this? Was this news true? If the Madinites did give Muhammad ﷺ protection in Madeenah things would definitely change for the worse!" Al-Khazraj and the Al-Aws tribes were famous as powerful warriors, and it was not wise to have them as enemies. But more importantly, Madeenah was located in a very important place and all the caravan routes had to pass by it. Therefore, if Muhammad ﷺ went there he could command his followers to capture their caravans, which contained the wealth and possessions of Muslims which the Quraysh had confiscated. Thus, the Quraysh were gravely concerned. They had to verify if the people of Madeenah were e willing to support them. Messenger of Allah ﷺ against them.
- [The Migrations Begin](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/the-migrations-begin/): Back in Makkah, the Quraysh were nervous and upset. The situation had become more dangerous than they had ever expected. Every year, caravans of merchandise worth millions of gold dinars had to use the caravan routes of Madeenah. Now, with the Muslims controlling this route, they could attack their caravans and leave them penniless. They never expected that, thirteen years later, they would still be struggling with Muhammad ﷺ and his band of weak followers. Yet, they were. However, his followers were no longer just the weak and the oppressed of Makkah. With each passing day, Muhammad ﷺ and his followers seemed to be rising in power and might. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was full of hope because, now, there was a small Islamic community. Madeenah glistened like a jewel on the hot, dry sands of ignorance, and he gave his followers permission to migrate there. However, Muhammad ﷺ was deeply concerned for his followers. He knew that the Quraysh would do anything to prevent them from leaving Makkah. Therefore, he warned them to leave secretly without drawing too much attention to themselves. Apart from the dangers of being caught by the Quraysh, the Makkan Muslims would be forced to leave their wealth and relations behind, and they would have to endure a horrendous journey, full of dangers; like robbers and wild animals. Regardless of the difficulties that lay ahead for the Muslims, the reward of being able to practice their religion in peace, was well worth the risk. Thus, the Muslims prepared for the long journey.
- [The Divine Revelation: Allah’s Intervention in the Scheming Shadows of Quraysh](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/the-divine-revelation-allahs-intervention-in-the-scheming-shadows-of-quraysh/): As the scheming men of Quraysh left their meeting place of An-Nadwah, they felt confident. Finally, they would be rid of Muhammad ﷺ or, so they thought. Little did they know, at that very moment, Allah sent down the Angel Jibreel to warn the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of their evil plan to murder him. At this time, Allah also gave the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permission to leave Makkah. Around noon, the Messenger of Allah immediately went to Aboo Bakr's house to inform him of the good news. Aboo Bakr was quite surprised to find the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at his house at that time of the day. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked his companion to dismiss any company he had, Aboo Bakr was certain that he had something important to tell him.

He knew that they would get every tracker and tribe to help locate them. He was also sure that they would search the road north of Makkah, which was the usual route to Madeenah. So he played a clever trick on them. Instead, he and Aboo Bakr headed towards the south, along a deserted road that led to Yemen. They walked for five long miles until they reached a rugged, rocky mountain called Thawr.

Everyone desperately wanted to meet the beloved Prophet ﷺ . So every morning, crowds of people waited anxiously to catch a glimpse of the blessed guests until the heat of the midday sun forced them back to their homes. Then, one day, after they had all returned to the city in disappointment, a Jew in the suburb of Qubaa' saw something in the distance. Sure enough,in the hazy,sweltering heat, were the figures of three men clad in white. The Jew could not restrain himself and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Oyou people of Arabia! Here is the great man that you have been waiting for!"
- [Building a New Society](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/building-a-new-society/): After the Messenger ﷺ had settled comfortably in Aboo Ayyoob's house, he immediately turned his attention toward the task of building a mosque on the place where his camel had knelt down. He purchased the land from the two orphans to whom it belonged and construction started immediately. The Messenger ﷺ was so humble that he did not sit idly by and watch as this important task was being completed. Instead, he was a wonderful example as he joined the believers, carrying bricks and stones while he recited:

- [Trouble on the Horizon](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/trouble-on-the-horizon/): The Messenger ﷺ continued to spread his call beyond the city limits of Madeenah, in the hope that Islam would prevail all over the Arabian Peninsula and eventually, the world. Meanwhile, in Makkah, the situation was tense. The Quraysh were astounded that Muhammad ﷺ and many of his followers had managed to escape to Madeenah and now, with each day that passed, they became more and more powerful. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Quraysh knew that they had to destroy the new Muslim nation that was forming only five hundred kilometers away.In their fight against Islam, they tried to spread fear and resentment of Muhammad and his followers in the hearts of the other Arabian tribes. This was a precaution to prevent them from feeling inclined towards Islam.
- [The Ambush of Nakhlah](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/the-ambush-of-nakhlah/): As the year went by, the Muslims continued their missions and raids to influence their enemies and make agreements with other tribes. However, during one such mission, something terrible happened.

Likewise, the Muhaajiroon (Emigrants) were very grateful, but equally determined to maintain themselves. This is because the Messenger ﷺ encouraged his followers to avoid asking for help unless they had no other choice One such instance took place when one of the Ansaar (Helpers) told his Muslim brother from Makkah, "I am the richest man amongst the Ansaar (Helpers). I will gladly give you half of my property and I will divorce one of my two wives, so you can marry her after her waiting period, if she agrees." However, the Makkan Muslim declined these generous offers, seeking to make his wealth by his own labor. In fact, he did prosper and was soon able to marry. Indeed, the spirit of unity had seeped into the hearts of the Muslims and brotherhood had rooted itself firmly in their souls. At this time, the Qiblah (the direction in which Muslims pray) was towards Jerusalem and after the main section of the Mosque was completed, the Muslims added several small rooms for the Messenger ﷺ and his family.
- [A Caravan is Coming !](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/a-caravan-is-coming/): The two scouts reported that the caravan returning from Syria was loaded with wealth worth about fifty thousand gold Dinars and only forty men were guarding it. This news pleased the Messenger ﷺ because this could replace the wealth that the Muslims had lost when they were forced to leave Makkah. He therefore urged the Muslims to ambush the caravan. Still, he did not command everyone to go because he thought that this would be a small-scale mission. The Muslim army eagerly set out from Madeenah with 314 men, about half being from the Ansaar (Helpers) and the other half being from the Muhaajiroon (Emigrants). The humble army was neither well equipped nor well prepared. They only had two horses with them and they all had to take turns riding the 70 camels. Even the Messenger ﷺ had to share his ride with some of the Companions. Yet, with their banners blowing in the hot, desert breeze, the brave army strode through the desert. Ali bin Abee Talib led the Muhaajiroon (Emigrants), Sa'd bin Mu'aadh led the Ansaar (Helpers) and the Messenger ﷺ himself, was the Commander-in-Chief. He ﷺ led his soldiers along a main road leading to Makkah. Then, the modest little army eagerly turned towards Badr, intending to capture the Quraysh's caravan loaded with wealth.
- [The Quraysh March Out to Badr](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/the-quraysh-march-out-to-badr/): Intent on revenge, almost all the men left Makkah. They arrogantly marched out into the desert with a host of 1300 excited soldiers. They were all well armed and eager to fight with Muhammad ﷺ and his Companions.
- [The Battle of Badr Begins!](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/the-battle-of-badr-begins/): As the first white streaks of dawn appeared, the Muslims rose to pray and the Messenger ﷺ encouraged them to fight in the way of Allah. He also advised his men not to harm Banoo Haashim because they had protected him in Makkah and had been forced to join the Quraysh in this battle. In particular, he asked them not to harm his uncle Al-Abbaas and another man named Aboo Hudhaifah, who had never attempted to harm him. He told his men that they could capture them, but they should not kill them. Then, as the sun rose over the damp sand dunes, the Messenger ﷺ pointing with an arrow, arranged the Muslim army for battle. Meanwhile, the Quraysh also prepared for the inevitable encounter.
- [After the Battle](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/after-the-battle/): As soon as the battle ended, the Messenger ﷺ ordered his men to bury their martyred companions. Then, he turned his attention to the dead pagans and asked for Aboo Jahl. 'Abdullah bin Mas'ood soon found Aboo Jahl alive, but on the verge of dying. They exchanged comments about the battle. However, when Aboo Jahl spitefully insulted 'Abdullah he swiftly finished him off. Later, when the Messenger ﷺ went to look at his body, he said, "This is the Pharoah of this nation."
- [The Quraysh Prepare for War](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/the-quraysh-prepare-for-war/): When the Quraysh learned about the capture of their summer caravan, they were devastated! What would they do now? How could they survive with the Muslims controlling their livelihood? The ominous threat of poverty, coupled with their insulting defeat at Badr left the Quraysh senseless with anger. At Badr, they had lost their wealth, their best warriors and their pride. Now, they seethed with anger over the growing influence the Messenger ﷺ was gaining over Madeenah and their tempers boiled when they noticed that more people were joining the Muslims each day.

When Talhah bin Abee Talhah, one of the Quraysh's bravest fighters, challenged the Muslims to a duel to the death. It was Az-Zubayr bin Al-`Awwam who bravely accepted the challenge. He ferociously jumped on Talhah, dragged him from his camel and slaughtered him with his sword.
- [The Situation After ‘Uhud](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/the-situation-after-uhud/): Although the Muslim soldiers were at fault at 'Uhud, the Messenger ﷺ knew that they had to maintain their struggle. However, after 'Uhud, the Muslims were sad and discouraged and the Messenger ﷺ knew that it was vital that they regain their confidence. After all, discouragement and failure has no place in the souls of believers. So the next morning, the Messenger ﷺ ordered his soldiers to march out again. However, there was one condition.

- [The Expedition Against the Al-Mustaliq Tribe](https://ulamainstitute.org/topics/the-expedition-against-the-al-mustaliq-tribe/): In the sixth year after the Messenger ﷺ had migrated to Madeenah, he received news of new hostilities mounting on the horizon. The tribe of Al-Mustaliq intended to attack the Muslims, so the Muslims marched forth once again. The small battle ended in victory for the Muslims and the Messenger ﷺ married Juwayriyah bint al-Haarith, the chief 's daughter. Due to their marriage, the Muslims released one hundred of her people who all accepted Islam.
