Alshahaadah: The declaration of faith

1- A Muslim must say and believe in the Shahaadah.

The declaration of faith is made through believing in and saying the Shahaadah, as follows, “I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”

Allah says,

“Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge- [that He is] maintaining [creation] in Justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.” (Soorah Aali ‘Imraan: 18)

To be a Muslim, a person must believe firmly in the Shahaadah and say it.

2- The Shahaadah is very important to Muslims.

The Shahaadah has two parts.

The first part says that only Allah must be worshipped.

This means that Muslims must believe in Allah only

The second part says that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Muslims must believe that Allah sent Muhammad as the final Messenger and that everything he has said is true, and comes from Allah.

Muslims should respect the Qur’aan

Muslims respect the Qur’aan because:

• It is the Word of Allah.

• It is the final Revelation.

• The Prophet taught Muslims to respect it.

Muslims handle the Qur’aan with respect.

• Muslims do not damage the Qur’aan.

• Muslims do not dirty or tear the Qur’aan.
